Installation Instructions
  1. Download the Installer from the link above.
  2. Run the installer and, if necessary, install the .NET 2.0 Redistributable.
  3. You will find DICOMManager in a "DICOMManager" folder in your Start Menu's Programs list. Run it from there.
  4. The application should now be showing. If you need to set the program up as a DICOM node (you will be sending from DICOMManager to other servers or visa-versa), perform the following setup procedures:
    • The default AE title is "DICOM" and port is 4006. If you wish to change this, you may go into the Tools menu and select Options. DICOMManager can be set up using any custom AE title or it can automatically copy eFilm's AE title from the registry (if you have it installed). Likewise, you can select any TCP port to listen on.
    • You must now add remote notes/entities. The tall narrow pane on the right is the node list. You may add nodes by pressing the "+" button at the top. Once you enter in the information and add it to the list, you may edit your new node by selecting it in the list and hitting "Edit" or by double clicking it. You can also remove it by selecting it and hitting the "-" button at the top. This is the list of remote machines allowed to communicate with DICOMManager.
Usage Instructions
  • To load a study from a DICOM CD:
    1. Click the "CDROM" tab.
    2. Place the CD into any CD drive.
    3. Select the drive letter from the "Drive" dropdown box and hit "Load".
    4. The list of patients, studies, and series should now appear in the large box.
  • To load DICOM files:
    1. Click the "Files" tab.
    2. You may either click "Add Files" and browse to a directory to recursively add files from, or you may simply drag and drop files onto the window.
  • To view images:
    1. From either the CDROM or the Files tabs, select what you would like to view. You may select a patient, a study, a series, or even just a specific image file (from the files tab).
    2. Click the "View Series" button above the work area.
    3. A viewer window should pop up, with a progress bar displaying how much has been loaded of what you selected to view.
    4. The controls for the viewer are as follows:
      • Scroll Wheel: Scroll through images in the current series
      • Right click: Displays the series list to change active series (if multiple series are loaded)
      • Left click and drag: Scroll through images in the current series
      • Right click and drag: Change window/level
      • Hold the control key on the keyboard, then left click and drag: Pan image
      • Hold the control key on the keyboard, then right click and drag: Zoom image
    5. Close the viewer window when you are done manipulating the series.
  • To add a send destination/remote entity:
    1. Click the + button in the upper right of the window - this should bring up the Add/Edit Entity window
    2. Fill in the fields:
      • Name: Any name you wish to use to identify the entity
      • AE Title: The DICOM AE Title of the device
      • Address: The IP address or Hostname of the device
      • Port: The TCP Port that the DICOM device is listening for connections on
      • Max Queue: If this device requires that sends are automatically broken into smaller batched sends, select the number on the right and enter the maximum bin size. Otherwise, leave it as Unlimited (the default).
    3. Click OK to save it or Cancel to not add the device
    4. The device should now show in the list on the right. You may now send images to it.
  • To DICOM send images to another node:
    1. Just as when viewing images, select what you would like to send to the target modality from either the CDROM, Files, or Memory tab.
    2. Select the target node by clicking it once in the node list on the right. It should stay highlighted.
    3. If you wish to anonymize the series, click the dropdown that says "Leave Patient Data" and change it to "Anonymize Patient Info".
    4. The default is for DICOMManager to automatically decompress any compressed image sets before sending. If you wish to leave compressed images in their compressed form, click the "Decompress All" dropdown and change it to "Leave Image Data".
    5. Click "Send Selected" to only send what you have selected in the current tab. You may also click "Send All" to send everything contained in the active tab.
  • To retrieve images from another node:
    1. Switch to the Memory tab
    2. Select the node you will be querying from the node list
    3. Click the Query/Retrieve button. This will pop up a window for querying that target.
    4. In this window, enter in any limiting criteria for your query, and hit Search.
    5. The results should come back and be displayed in rows.
    6. To retrieve a study, either double-click the row in the results, or select one (or more) of the rows and click the "Retrieve Selected" button at the top.
    7. The images should start showing up in the Memory tab of the main application. You may close the Q/R window at this time, or do another query and retrieve more images.
  • To load images into the Memory queue:
    1. From either the CDROM or Files tab, select the images you want to move
    2. Click the "To Memory" button at the top of the pane
    3. Switch to the Memory tab. The images should be loaded, parsed, and sorted by Patient, then Study, then Series
  • To edit demographics of files in the Memory queue:
    1. From the Memory tab, select the images you want to edit, and click "Edit Demographic".
    2. A window will pop up with the current demographics:
      • DICOMManager will run through all of the selected images to populate these fields. If different images have different values for these fields, they will be set to [Multiple], otherwise if they all match they will be set to the common value.
      • PatName is the Patient Name (0010,0010)
      • PatID is the Patient ID/MRN (0010,0020)
      • DOB is the Patient Birthdate (0010,0030)
      • Accession is the study's Accession # (0008,0050)
      • StudyID is the study's Study ID, sometimes used as an alternate accession # by some PACS systems (0020,0010)
      • RewriteUIDs denotes whether you want DICOMManager to generate new UIDs for the images. If this is set to true, when you hit "Save", it will rewrite the Image, Series, and Study SOP UIDs for all the DICOM fields. All images previously in the same series/study will end up in the same new series/study, but they will not be the same as the old UIDs. This effectively makes a "copy" of the images that will merge into most PACS systems as new images.
    3. Change the fields to the new values you want, then hit Save to apply the changes. If you leave any of the fields as "[Multiple]", DICOMManager will leave those intact as whatever the source values were.
